King County HIV/STD Prevention needs Volunters
The HIV/STD Program is looking for talented interviewers to help recruit and conduct brief street interviews with gay men at the Gay Pride Event on Sunday June 27th. The interviews will survey respondents about HIV knowledge, risk behavior and HIV testing patterns. The data from the survey will help us better target HIV prevention programming in our community. The HIV/STD Program will pay $20/hr for the time spent working on this project and people will need to commit about 9 to 11 hours of time during the week of June 21st, including a three hour training sometime during the week of June 21st and then a six hour to eight hour shift on June 27th. Please contact Elizabeth Barash (206-296-2907) if you are interested or would like to learn more.
Let me know if you might be able to help! Thanks in advance!

In Memoriam: Tory Plaisance
Tory J. PLAISANCE Tory J. Plaisance passed away in his home in Renton on March 20, 2010 from multiple cancers. Born September 10, 1963 in Everett, WA. Tory was a 1982 graduate from Edmonds High School. Tory had a very active life. While in high school he was a member of the Edmonds choir as well as dancing jazz with the Barclay School of Dance for seven years. He started Edmonds Community College for a year before beginning cooking classes where he then worked as an assistant chef at La Fleur and for three years at Brasseux in Edmonds. In 1985 he attended the Divers Institute of Technology in Seattle then the College of Oceaneering in Los Angeles and worked on tankers and container ships welding anodes onto ship propellers as well as refinishing propellers. While working, Tory attended Cascade Business College getting a degree in computer accounting. He started his career in freight forwarding in 1991 and after four years of illness returned to school graduating with honors from Highline Community College with an Associate International Business degree in freight forwarding. He started working for Express Northwest in 2005 where with the support of the owners, Matt and Kathy McLean, Tory was able to continue his employment until he could no longer work. Besides singing, dancing, working and going to school, Tory also played two years on a men's softball team as well as fulfilling the desire to sky dive. His first jump was from 12,000 feet in 1996 and his second of 14,000 feet. Knowing that he had terminal cancer, Tory contacted King TV to see if they would like to document the steps he would need to take in order to comply with the new "Death with Dignity" law. This became known as "Tory's Journey". Because of some glitches in the law, Tory was unable to fulfill his desire to use the "Death with Dignity" law and passed away with his friend, Paul and his mother, Nancy at his side. Tory's father preceded him in death, but he leaves behind his friend, Paul, his mother, Nancy, his sister Claudia (Greg) of Colorado, his brothers Steve (Patti) of Lake Stevens and Chris (Leah) of Mill Creek. His son, Max of AZ, also his uncle Bill, aunts Mary and Jean as well as his nephews Sean, Drew, Tanner, Conor, niece Jennifer, cousins Mindy, Beth, Denise, Karen and numerous very close and special friends.
